Castries, Saint Lucia — In a major breakthrough against drug trafficking, a joint operation led by the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF), Customs and Excise Department, and the Gangs Narcotics and Firearms Unit (GNF) successfully intercepted 3.44 kilograms of cocaine concealed in an outgoing postal package on Friday, August 15, 2025.

The operation, conducted at the General Post Office on Bridge Street, Castries, targeted outgoing packages, including those forwarded from the Vieux Fort Post Office and scheduled for transit via George F. L. Charles Airport. During inspections, a cardboard box declared as “Seamoss” raised suspicions. Upon examination, officers discovered four bricks of a solid whitish substance, which a field test confirmed to be cocaine, carrying an estimated street value of EC $86,000.

Following swift investigations, intelligence from the GNF South Branch led authorities to identify Neil Alexander of Pierrot, Vieux Fort as the sender of the package. On Wednesday, September 3, 2025, a joint team from GNF North and South, supported by the Southern Tactical Team, executed a search warrant at Alexander’s residence. He was cautioned, arrested, and subsequently charged on Thursday, September 4, 2025, with multiple offences, including:

Attempting to Export Cocaine under the Drug (Prevention of Misuse) Act

Attempting to Export Prohibited Goods

Fraudulent Evasion under the Customs (Control and Management) Act.

Alexander appeared before the court on Friday, September 5, 2025, where he was granted bail in the sum of EC $27,900. The court imposed strict conditions, including the surrender of all travel documents, restrictions on overseas travel, and mandatory reporting requirements.

Authorities confirmed that investigations are ongoing as they work to dismantle the wider network behind the smuggling attempt.
