Castries, February 03, 2025 – Through well-forged partnerships and generous donations from a broad cross-section of organizations, the Welfare Unit of the Ministry of Equity, Social Justice and Empowerment continues to offer support to several individuals and families throughout the island. Commenting on the influx of donations and support received lately, Head of the Welfare Unit, Jahn McFarlane, highlighted some of the initiatives and collaborations that have made a tangible difference in the lives of many.

“Throughout the year we have quite a few persons and organizations who assist us in terms of supporting what we do with our various public assistance programmes. Sometimes they come to our aid, other times we go to them and they are always willing to support us. For example, we have entities like Massy stores, and we have the Lightning Aquatics Swim Club, which donated school supplies last September. We also partnered with KFC and The Salvation Army over the Christmas season so the children from PAP households were able to benefit from a fair and gift presentations. As a Unit, we were happy for that and to be able to do that.”

Mc Farlane also made special mention of the diaspora community, expressing gratitude to them for their contributions, “We have persons within the diaspora who support us. Over the Christmas season, in particular, we received the barrels, and we were able to distribute 33 hampers to clients in the south of the region. And so, we want to thank all of those persons. We also want to encourage others out there to continue to partner with the Welfare Unit, in whatever little way that they can, so that we can assist the most vulnerable within our communities.”

Mc Farlane noted that the Welfare Unit is dedicated to supporting and uplifting marginalized persons and groups in society and encourages all who can, individuals or entities, to partner with her unit, believing that together lasting impacts with far-reaching effects can be created.
