VIEUX FORT, SAINT LUCIA – The Saint Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority (SLASPA) has responded to the flight disruptions at Hewanorra International Airport, assuring the public that efforts are underway to resolve what appears to be industrial action by the Ground Handling staff. The disruptions on Saturday, February 1, 2025, resulted in three flight cancellations and delays, affecting numerous travelers.
SLASPA has urged affected passengers to stay in direct contact with their airlines for updates, as accommodations for those impacted are expected to be facilitated by the airlines on Sunday, February 2, 2025.
Despite the operational setbacks, a coordinated effort between SLASPA, airlines, senior management of the Ground Handlers, and other airport stakeholders ensured that most flight operations continued. However, the situation remains fluid, with SLASPA closely monitoring developments and working towards a resolution between the Ground Handler and its staff.
The authority has expressed its regret over the inconvenience caused and reassured travelers that every effort is being made to restore normal operations as soon as possible.
Passengers scheduled to travel in the coming days are advised to remain in communication with their respective airlines for real-time updates. While no official statement has been made on the underlying cause of the industrial action, SLASPA has committed to keeping the public informed as the situation unfolds.
