Gros Islet Football League Launches 2026 Bay Bay Cup Club Tournament
The Gros Islet Football League officially launched the 2026 Bay Bay Cup Club Tournament on Tuesday, January 20, during a well-attended press event at the Gros Islet Human Resource Centre.
The launch marked the return of competitive community football in the district and brought together the eight clubs set to contest the tournament: GMC United, Northern United, Gros Islet Veterans, Monchy FC, Gros Islet Youth, Police, Dominators, and New Generation.
Also present were League President Shayne Paul, Earl Jean, Director of the National Lotteries Authority, Keisha Annius, Operations Manager at Scott’s Sports and Awards, and Kenson Casimir, Minister of Education, Youth Development, Sports and Digital Transformation and Parliamentary Representative for Gros Islet.
Brief remarks were delivered by members of the head table, with special emphasis from Minister Casimir, who welcomed the return of organized football to the Gros Islet community. He highlighted the recent upgrades to the Corinth Grand Riviere and Francis Baba Lastic Grounds, noting that the improved facilities now create greater opportunities for football and other sporting disciplines.
The minister also commended the Gros Islet Football League for its continued commitment to grassroots development and thanked all participating clubs for their involvement, wishing them a successful and competitive tournament.
The evening concluded with an official draw, placing the eight teams into two groups of four. The competition will follow a round-robin format within each group, with the top two teams advancing to the knockout stage as the race for the 2026 Bay Bay Club title gets underway this Sunday January 25th.
