The Government of Saint Lucia has acknowledged a temporary suspension in the issuance of United States immigrant visas affecting nationals of seventy-five (75) countries, including Saint Lucia and ten (10) other CARICOM member states.
According to information issued by the United States Department of State, the measure is expected to take effect on January 21, 2026 and applies exclusively to immigrant visas, which are issued to individuals seeking permanent residence in the United States.
The Ministry of External Affairs, International Trade, Civil Aviation and Diaspora Affairs has clarified that non-immigrant visas are not affected. These include visas for tourism and business travel, study and exchange programmes, as well as temporary employment. U.S. authorities have also indicated that immigrant visa interviews may continue to be scheduled during the suspension period.
The Government, through the Ministry, will remain engaged with relevant U.S. diplomatic and consular officials to obtain further clarification on the scope, duration, and implementation of the measure.
Saint Lucia reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining and strengthening its longstanding bilateral relationship with the United States of America, based on mutual respect, cooperation, and shared interests.
The public is encouraged to rely on official government communications for accurate and up-to-date information. Further updates will be provided as they become available.
