Police Recover High-Powered Firearms, Ammunition in Coordinated Operations

Must Read

A series of coordinated law enforcement operations conducted on December 19 in Choiseul and Canaries have resulted in the recovery of two high-powered firearms, ammunition, and the arrest of several individuals, as authorities intensify efforts to curb gun and drug-related crime.

The operations were led by the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force’s Gangs, Narcotics and Firearms Units in both the Northern and Southern Divisions, with support from the Special Services Unit, Southern Tactical Unit and a Special Operations Team.

During searches carried out at a dwelling house and a high point location, officers recovered two high-powered rifles along with 26 rounds of 7.62 ammunition. Three individuals were taken into custody in connection with the firearm recovery.

In a related operation, police searched four houses in the Belvedere, Canaries area. That exercise resulted in one individual being arrested for possession of controlled drugs and possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply. Investigations are ongoing, and police have indicated that further updates will be provided once charges are formally laid.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, police intercepted multiple illegal firearms at a courier service in the northern part of the island, following intelligence-led operations. Officers of the Customs and Excise Department, supported by the Gangs, Narcotics and Firearms Unit, examined suspicious packages and uncovered several illegal firearms and firearm components.

Some of the weapons recovered were capable of discharging multiple rounds with a single pull of the trigger, posing a significant threat to public safety. Law enforcement officials noted that such firearms are often linked to violent crimes, including armed robberies, shootings and other gun-related activity.

Police say the removal of these weapons from circulation has likely prevented potential loss of life and further criminal harm.

Authorities also revealed that over the past month, law enforcement agencies in Miami, Florida intercepted commercial shipments destined for Saint Lucia containing illegal firearms and magazines in two separate incidents. These interceptions highlight the continued efforts by criminal networks to smuggle weapons into the country.

As the country heads into the new year, the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force, through the Gangs, Narcotics and Firearms Unit, in collaboration with the Customs and Excise Department and other local and international partners, has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening border security, improving intelligence sharing, and aggressively disrupting the illegal flow of firearms.
