Rodney Bay, Saint Lucia — From Saint Lucia to Saint Vincent, Dominica to Grenada, Antigua to Jamaica, pride and perseverance converged as Monroe University marked its 2025 graduation ceremony at the Royalton Resort on Sunday, October 19.

The event brought together hundreds of graduates from across the Caribbean, reflecting a shared story of ambition, sacrifice, and regional opportunity. For many, it was the culmination of years of balancing work, study, and family commitments.

“Monroe University gave me the opportunity to be the first in my family to earn a degree,” said Lauralee Placide a Bachelor’s Degree graduate, expressing gratitude for the institution’s commitment to accessible higher education.

Through partnerships with regional governments, Monroe University continues to expand opportunities for first-generation university students, removing financial barriers through scholarship programs that share tuition costs between the institution and participating states. To date, more than 2,000 students have graduated from the Saint Lucia campus, which now serves over 1,100 students from six Caribbean territories.

Keynote speaker, Hon. Mario Michel, reminded graduates that education must be matched with humility and service. “Do not take advantage of your advantage,” he urged, emphasizing leadership through character and respect.

As the Class of 2025 turned their tassels, the applause spoke to a collective triumph — not only for individual success, but for a Caribbean steadily rising through education, unity, and resilience.
