Police Marine Unit Recovers Stolen Vessel Parts and Investigates Maritime Crimes

Must Read

The Police Marine Unit (PMU) of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force has intensified its islandwide patrols following a series of successful operations targeting maritime theft and illegal activity.

In collaboration with the Marine Investigation and Intelligence Unit (MIIU), the PMU recovered several components from a vessel reported stolen in Martinique. Acting on information from French authorities, officers executed multiple search warrants in Monkey Town, Ciceron, on October 8, 2025. The items recovered from an abandoned house included two grey fenders, an orange bailer, two boat masts, a boathook, a Yamaha throttle controller, and a black Mercury outboard engine.

On October 17, officers responded to reports of a suspected stolen French vessel at Marigot Bay. A fiberglass pirogue without any visible registration or name markings was discovered and towed to the PMU base for verification.

Two days later, on October 19, the PMU and MIIU intercepted another vessel after receiving reports of a suspected illegal landing of goods at the Castries Fisheries Complex. One individual was detained for questioning, and the matter has been referred to the Customs Department for further investigation.

Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining maritime security and are urging all seafarers to comply with registration and safety regulations. Members of the public are encouraged to report suspicious maritime activity by contacting the Police Marine Unit at 456-3870.
