Gospel music veteran Shirley Ann Cyril-Mayers has been recognized for more than three decades of service to the regional gospel industry, receiving the 2025 Caribbean Music Awards Gospel Honor. The accolade was formally announced Thursday during a press briefing hosted by the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority (SLTA).

For Cyril-Mayers, who has spent much of her life ministering through music, the award represents both a professional and spiritual milestone.

“The highlight of this award for me was the red carpet moment. It wasn’t just about glamour, it was ministry. I had the opportunity to minister, to touch lives, and even the interviewers said they were blessed. Representing Saint Lucia on that platform gave me the chance to tell the world about our beautiful island,” she said.

Cyril-Mayers also reflected on the significance of gospel music for younger audiences, noting its role in guiding them beyond entertainment.

“Many of our young people gravitate to secular music because it feels good, but we must not forget the giver of life. My mission has always been to inspire and uplift through gospel, reminding youth of the deeper message in music.”

The recognition underscores Cyril-Mayers’ enduring influence on Caribbean gospel music, as well as her contribution to Saint Lucia’s cultural and spiritual identity.

Louis Lewis, Chief Executive Officer of the SLTA, said the honor also strengthens Saint Lucia’s positioning as a cultural hub.

“We have no shortage of gospel performers in the Caribbean, but for a Saint Lucian to receive this title shows the depth of our talent. It ties in perfectly with the Saint Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival, particularly Kingdom Night, which is one of the most highly attended days of the festival. Having one of the region’s leading gospel artists and one of its leading gospel events creates a perfect marriage. For us, it’s a double win, recognition of our artists and our island.”
