St. Lucian Athlete Makeba Alcide Honored with Induction into UA Sports Hall of Honor

Must Read

St. Lucia is celebrating one of its own as Makeba Alcide, a trailblazing track and field star, has been named among eight distinguished inductees into the 2025 University of Arkansas Sports Hall of Honor. The official induction ceremony will take place on Friday, September 26, 2025, at the Walton Arts Center in Fayetteville.

Alcide, who represented the University of Arkansas from 2009 to 2013, etched her name into collegiate athletics history through her dominance in the pentathlon and heptathlon. During her tenure with the Razorbacks, she set a then-collegiate pentathlon record of 4,569 points to capture the 2013 SEC Indoor title, finishing third at the NCAA Championships that same year. Twelve years later, her score still ranks No. 9 on the all-time collegiate list.

Her prowess extended to the heptathlon, where she achieved a career-best score of 6,050 points as the 2013 NCAA Outdoor silver medalist, earning her a spot at the World Championships in Moscow. Alcide is also a two-time SEC heptathlon champion (2011, 2013) and still holds St. Lucia’s national records in the pentathlon, heptathlon, and the 100m hurdles (13.52).

For the Razorbacks, Alcide’s marks continue to shine. She remains No. 2 on the university’s all-time list in both the pentathlon and heptathlon, while her high jump performances—6-2.25 indoors and 6-2 outdoors—stood as UA records for 11 years.

Reflecting on the honor, Alcide expressed both humility and pride:

“I feel truly honored, grateful, and undeserving of this honor. To be recognized as a contributor of excellence among Razorbacks, I couldn’t be more proud. I am still in shock and wondering why me? I never anticipated being part of a Hall of Fame Class, especially at the University of Arkansas where so many legends have walked. This recognition is a reminder of the journey, the challenges overcome, and most importantly, the people who supported me along the way. Being recognized in this way motivates me to continue contributing positively to my field and to inspire others to pursue their goals with passion and perseverance.”

Alcide joins an esteemed class of inductees, including Brian Baker (Men’s Track & Field/Cross Country), Zack Cox (Baseball), the late Ryan Mallett (Football), C’eira Ricketts (Women’s Basketball), James Rouse (Football), Dwight Stewart (Men’s Basketball), and Clint Stoerner (Football).

The ceremony precedes a historic moment for the Razorbacks, as they face Notre Dame for the first time ever on September 27, 2025, at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium.
