Pierre Declares SLP Will Contest—and Win—All 17 Seats in Next Election

Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre has declared that the Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP), in partnership with its independent allies, is preparing to secure an unchallenged victory in the next general election, winning all 17 seats in the House of Assembly. Speaking during a town hall meeting in Palm Valley, Dennery North, Pierre rallied supporters and affirmed the unity and strength of the current administration.

“We will show them that democracy is working,” Pierre stated. “The will of the people is the Saint Lucia Labour Party has worked well, and the people will reward the Saint Lucia Labour Party because Labour is working. Labour is working. Labour is working. Tell them, put it in their pipe and smoke it.”

Pierre’s remarks came with a clear call for complete electoral dominance, signaling that no constituency will be left uncontested.

“This election, we have to win all 17 seats. No seat shall be left behind,” he said to enthusiastic applause.

He dismissed rumours of internal strife within the SLP, declaring, “Our party is most united, and our party will ensure that every candidate gets the full support of every member of our party.” He also confirmed that the Labour Party will continue its coalition with Independent MPs Stephenson King (Castries North) and Richard Frederick (Castries Central).

“So when the time comes, and we name our 17 candidates, you will see what a team of commitment, you’ll see what a team of experience,” Pierre added. “We will join hands with the former Prime Minister, the Honourable Stephenson King, and the Parliamentary Representative for Castries Central, and together we will win all 17 seats at the next election.”

The SLP won the 2021 general election by a landslide, capturing 13 seats.

The coalition with King and Frederick extended the government’s control of the Lower House, leaving the opposition United Workers Party (UWP) with only two seats; a political defeat not seen since 1997, when the UWP was reduced to a single seat.

Pierre also used the occasion to praise his cabinet, specifically highlighting Education Minister Shawn Edward’s performance on the regional stage. “I was in Belize last week and everyone, including the Prime Minister of Belize, was saying to me what an outstanding minister Shawn Edward is,” Pierre said, noting he had entrusted Edward to represent Saint Lucia in regional affairs while he attended to prime ministerial duties.
