Must Read

Saint Lucian sportsmen and women are set to receive a shot in the arm in 2025 through the Government of Saint Lucia. Prime Minister Philip J Pierre revealed a commitment of 1 million dollars in sports equipment to be distributed among various disciplines.

Speaking to Saint Lucia Daily Post at the finals of the Prime Minister’s Independence T20 Championship held at the Mindoo Philip Park on Sunday March 16, 2025, Pierre disclosed more support for the St. Lucia Cricket High Performance Center, while urging young people to look at cricket as a means of improving their quality of life.

Without disclosing a breakdown, Prime Minister Pierre went on to indicate that 1 million dollars in equipment would be donated to sports in Saint Lucia, where cricket would receive its fair share.

Sports in Saint Lucia has been front and center in recent times. Several Saint Lucian athletes are being thrust into the international spotlight; chief of which is Julien Alfred’s recent Olympic, World Indoor Championships and Diamond League successes, along with the locally based CPL franchise the St. Lucia Kings, winning their maiden title laden with Saint Lucian talent both on the field and in management. Despite these accomplishments on the international level, various associations locally still struggle to get grass roots programs and senior programs going due to a lack of funding and equipment. This revelation will undoubtedly catch the attention of those most in need.

Prime Minister Pierre’s comments come on the heels of Saint Lucia successfully hosting the CONCACAF Congress and the CFU Congress over the past weekend where SLFA Inc. President Lyndon Cooper ascended to the ranks of President of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU).
