Saint Lucia Medical and Dental Association Condemns Violence Against Women

Must Read

The Saint Lucia Medical and Dental Association (SLMDA) joins the nation in expressing profound horror and outrage at the recent acts of violence against women. These senseless crimes have left families and communities devastated, and we categorically condemn all forms of violence, particularly against young women in their prime.

As a society, we cannot accept the brutal attack on a young woman and her family in their home. We must not remain silent when a 27-year-old mother of three is gunned down in broad daylight. We must stand together in the face of the horrific stabbing of two young women, which tragically claimed the life of one.

“Fellow citizens, we cannot allow ourselves to become desensitized to these atrocities. We must demand more from our leaders, law enforcement officials, the judicial system, and ourselves. If you see something, say something. Pay attention when victims of intimate partner violence seek help. Denounce abuse in all its forms—physical, verbal, or psychological. Let us commit to resolving conflicts without violence,” stated the SLMDA.

As we approach the 46th anniversary of our independence, we urge all Saint Lucians to take a stand in reclaiming our country. Patriotism is more than wearing national colors and expressing pride—it is about actively contributing to the progress and safety of our nation, supporting one another, and ensuring a better future for generations to come.

The SLMDA also takes this moment to remember our beloved nursing colleague, Keziah Wilson, who was fatally shot in November 2022. To date, no arrests have been made, and there has been no resolution. “We cannot and will not rest until justice is served,” the SLMDA affirmed.

To the families affected by these tragic losses, we extend our deepest condolences. To our colleagues in the medical field, who frequently bear the emotional and psychological burden of treating victims of violent crime, we urge you to prioritize your mental well-being.

“To all citizens of Saint Lucia, let us not allow criminals to dictate our reality. Together, we are stronger than those who seek to terrorize our communities. Let us rise up and take a stand against violence in all its forms,” the SLMDA declared.
