The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) is moving to address outstanding disciplinary matters as part of a renewed push to strengthen accountability, professionalism and public confidence within the Force.
The Discipline Unit has issued an urgent appeal to people with disciplinary complaints currently before the RSLPF to make contact with the Unit, as it works to bring outstanding matters to resolution.
Complainants are being asked to contact the Discipline Unit at 456-4223 or via email at disciplineunit12@gmail.com.
The move comes as the Commissioner of Police identifies discipline as a priority in strengthening the RSLPF’s ability to provide a professional, accountable and effective policing service.
Superintendent Irvin Alfred, officer in charge of the RSLPF Discipline Unit, said disciplinary matters must be approached with fairness, consistency, impartiality and respect for due process.
Alfred stressed that discipline within the Force goes beyond responding to misconduct. It also plays a role in strengthening professionalism, reinforcing expected standards and ensuring officers understand the responsibility that comes with serving in the RSLPF.
The Discipline Unit says allegations and disciplinary concerns will be dealt with through properly administered processes designed to be fair and transparent.
“Behind every disciplinary matter are individuals, careers and, ultimately, the public confidence that we have a duty to protect,” Alfred said.
He said the Unit intends to carry out that responsibility with professionalism, objectivity and integrity, while ensuring accountability contributes to strengthening both the organisation and the confidence Saint Lucians place in their Police Force.
Alfred also stressed that responsibility extends beyond police officers. While members of the Force are expected to uphold the standards associated with policing, members of the public are similarly expected to respect and uphold the law as officers carry out their duties.
The RSLPF is encouraging anyone with an outstanding disciplinary matter before the Force to contact the Discipline Unit as it seeks to bring unresolved cases to conclusion.
