24-Year-Old Bexon Man Dies After Fight For Life at Hospital Following Shooting

A 24-year-old Bexon resident has become Saint Lucia’s latest homicide victim after succumbing to gunshot injuries sustained in a weekend shooting. 

The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) confirmed that officers attached to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) responded to reports of a shooting in Marc, Bexon, at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 27.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Joel Mercier sustained multiple gunshot wounds during the incident. He was rushed to the Owen King EU Hospital, where medical personnel fought to save his life.

However, on Sunday, June 28, Mercier succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by a medical practitioner at 4:17 p.m., officially transforming the shooting into a homicide investigation.

The circumstances surrounding the fatal attack remain unclear, and detectives are continuing inquiries to determine what led to the deadly shooting and identify those responsible.
