After months of dedication, planning, and construction, the Belaire Early Childhood Development Centre (ECDC) will officially open its doors, unveiling a modern, state-of-the-art learning environment designed to give young children the best possible start in life.
The newly upgraded facility, which underwent extensive renovations beginning in April 2024 at a cost exceeding EC$1 million, now stands as a model for early childhood education in Saint Lucia.
The project was made possible through funding from the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and implemented under the Basic Needs Trust Fund (BNTF) by the Saint Lucia Social Development Fund (SSDF).
The communities of Belaire, Sarrot, La Croix Maingot, and surrounding areas will now benefit from the enhanced learning space, which features upgraded classrooms, improved facilities, and a more child-friendly environment. Previously serving 35 students, the centre now has the capacity to accommodate approximately 45 children.
Speaking ahead of the official handover ceremony on November 13th, SSDF Executive Director Mr. John Victorin described the project as a significant investment in the nation’s future. “Early childhood education lays the foundation for lifelong learning,” Victorin said. “Through partnerships like this, we’re ensuring that children in every community, no matter their background, have access to safe, stimulating, and high-quality learning environments. This centre represents our continued commitment to equity, opportunity, and empowerment across Saint Lucia.”
The new Belaire ECDC is one of several early childhood education initiatives supported by the SSDF and its partners, reflecting an ongoing effort to expand access to quality education and community development services across the island.
