Woman in Custody After Port Castries Drug Raid, Police Crackdown Widens

Must Read

The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF), through its Gangs, Narcotics and Firearms Unit (GNFU), continues to make headlines as authorities ramp up efforts to curb the smuggling of drugs and illegal weapons into the country.

Over the past month, the GNFU has recorded several major interdictions, including a recent seizure valued at more than EC$1.3 million and the arrests of multiple employees from the Saint Lucia Air and Seaports Authority (SLASPA) and the Customs and Excise Department, agencies responsible for managing the island’s ports of entry.

In the latest development, on October 29, GNFU officers executed another raid at Port Castries, during which a consignment of goods was searched and found to contain illegal drugs.

Amateur video footage of the operation has since gone viral on social media, showing officers combing through shipping barrels and containers as part of the ongoing investigation.

Saint Lucia Daily Post have confirmed that one female, employed at a local call centre, has been arrested in connection with the latest seizure. She is currently assisting investigators with their inquiries.

The recent wave of arrests and drug busts has placed renewed attention on the integrity and oversight of Saint Lucia’s border control systems, as law enforcement officials intensify efforts to dismantle smuggling networks operating through legitimate trade channels.

Authorities have reiterated their zero-tolerance stance on corruption and criminal activity within public institutions, vowing to continue their crackdown on all individuals, including public officers, found complicit in illegal operations.
