Guy Joseph Asserts UWP’s Strength, Takes Aim at SLP and Castries South East Contender

First Deputy Leader of the United Workers’ Party (UWP), Guy Joseph, has declared that the ruling Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) is growing increasingly uneasy over the strength and appeal of the UWP’s slate of candidates for the next general election. Speaking at a public gathering, Joseph expressed confidence in the UWP’s team, describing it as unmatched in quality and readiness.

“The same people who are winning, they changing them,” Joseph said, referencing the SLP’s decision to replace sitting MPs with new candidates. “You know why they changing them? Because the A-Team presented by Allen Chastanet—there’s no match in the Labour Party for the A-Team of the United Workers’ Party.”

Joseph revealed that the UWP has only one more candidate to announce and hinted that once revealed, the final candidate would solidify the party’s position as a formidable force heading into the elections. “Let me tell you, this is a formidable team,” he added confidently.

The Castries South East representative also took direct aim at his former political opponent, Joachim Henry, who will not be contesting the seat under the SLP banner. “Now, I don’t want to laugh at Joachim, but he tells Allen the people do not want him. Next you hear, two days after, they fired him,” Joseph said. He also criticized Henry’s replacement, Senator Lisa Jawahir, delivering a stinging jab: “They replaced him with somebody who has a first degree in lying.”

Comparing himself to Jawahir, Joseph sought to reinforce his image as a grounded and transparent public servant. “I’m proud of my humble beginnings. I never pretended that I live in a wall house when I lived in a wooden house, so my friends would not know where I lived,” he said, emphasizing authenticity and relatability as key traits that set him apart.
