Saint Lucia made its presence felt at one of world football’s most recognisable venues on Wednesday, with the island’s branding lighting up Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium before an international football audience.
The high-profile display came during Arsenal’s final pre-season match against Italian side Como and provided one of the first visible signs of Saint Lucia’s new multi-year partnership with the English Premier League giants.
Announced less than two months ago, the deal makes Saint Lucia Arsenal’s Official Destination Partner and gives the island access to the club’s enormous international following through stadium advertising, digital content, marketing campaigns and supporter activations.
For the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority (SLTA), the strategy is not simply to get the island seen, but to turn Arsenal’s global reach into actual visitors.
Director of Global Marketing Dexter Percil said Wednesday’s display demonstrated the scale of the opportunity, particularly as Saint Lucia seeks to strengthen its presence in the United Kingdom and other major international markets.
“Seeing Brand Saint Lucia displayed so prominently at the Emirates Stadium demonstrates the extraordinary reach this partnership gives our destination,” Percil said, adding that the goal is to introduce Saint Lucia to millions of football supporters who may know Arsenal but have never experienced the island.
He said the bigger objective is sustained exposure capable of moving potential travellers from awareness to interest and eventually to booking a trip.
“This is about sustained visibility and engagement,” Percil said. “The objective is to turn that visibility into interest, interest into travel, and ultimately travel into economic benefit for Saint Lucia.”
The Arsenal partnership builds on Saint Lucia’s growing use of major sporting brands to market the destination internationally. Previous collaborations have included the New York Yankees, Toronto Raptors, Toronto Maple Leafs and Brooklyn Nets.
But the Arsenal deal also reaches beyond tourism promotion. Plans include joint international campaigns and supporter initiatives, while a football academy hub is expected to be established in Saint Lucia to provide mentorship and development opportunities for young players.
Wednesday was only an early preview. With Arsenal’s Premier League, cup and women’s campaigns still ahead, Saint Lucia is set to appear repeatedly before the club’s vast global audience when competitive football returns to the Emirates.
