Police have launched a homicide investigation following a fatal shooting in Barre St. Joseph on Friday night.
The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) says officers attached to the Marigot Police Station responded to reports of a shooting incident at Barre St. Joseph, Castries, at approximately 8:40 p.m. on May 29. According to preliminary investigations, a male victim sustained gunshot injuries during the incident and was transported by ambulance to the Owen King EU Hospital for medical treatment.
However, despite efforts to save him, the victim later succumbed to his injuries.
Police have identified the deceased as Mitchel Jean, a 24-year-old resident of Barre St. Joseph.
The Major Crimes Unit has since taken over the investigation as authorities work to determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting and identify those responsible.
The latest killing adds to growing concerns over gun violence and the continued loss of young lives to violent crime in Saint Lucia. Residents are once again being urged to assist law enforcement with information that could help bring those responsible to justice.
The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force is appealing to anyone with information related to the incident to contact the Major Crimes Unit at 456-3754. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Hotline 555 or via the Crime Hotline App.
Investigations remain ongoing.
