Gros Islet MP and Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) candidate Kenson Casimir expressed strong confidence in securing an even larger victory this election cycle, moments after casting his ballot in Grande Riviere on Monday morning.
Speaking to Saint Lucia Daily Post shortly after voting, Casimir said his team’s commitment to development in the constituency over the past four years has resonated deeply with residents. “We’ve done a lot of work on the ground. We really, really tried,” he said. “We committed ourselves to Grande Riviere in terms of developing the infrastructure and the social structure — the HRDC, the playing field, lights, court, a number of roads done. So I’m very, very confident that we are winning Grande Riviere even better than we did the last time.”
Casimir also commented on the long lines reported at several polling stations, including Indies Nightclub, Corinth Secondary School, and the Grande Riviere Primary School. He said the heavy turnout reflects a high level of public enthusiasm for this year’s general election but also exposes ongoing challenges within the electoral process. “It indicates that people are very excited about voting in this election,” he said. “But it also indicates that we have a lot to do in terms of the electoral system — ensuring that we split the seats. We have almost 26,000 voters on the list and just not enough space to execute voting efficiently. After this election, we will hear more about this.”
In closing, the SLP candidate thanked supporters for their confidence and highlighted what he described as meaningful progress in the constituency under the current administration. “The people are very excited, very satisfied. We could not do everything, but we did the best we can, and we look forward to another four or five years of governance” Casimir said.
