The United Workers Party (UWP) has issued a statement following the High Court’s ruling in the case brought by Opposition Leader Allen Chastanet against Dr. Ernest Hilaire and the Citizenship by Investment Board.
While acknowledging the Court’s decision, the Party emphasized that the matter remains ongoing and that the substantive issues are yet to be determined. The UWP described the ruling as “a postponement of justice”, underscoring that the Court has not yet examined the evidence or made any findings regarding the allegations surrounding the Citizenship by Investment Programme (CIP).
According to the UWP, the case has already prompted greater government transparency, including the release of overdue CIP reports and the suspension of several projects pending review. The Party contends that this process has highlighted the need for accountability in the management of public funds.
The UWP further indicated that the substantive hearing is scheduled for January 2026, at which time the Court will consider the full evidence. Until then, the Party urged restraint and discouraged premature conclusions on the outcome of the matter.
Reiterating its stance, the UWP stated that it “remains committed to transparency, accountability, and the protection of Saint Lucia’s national interests.”
