Castries, Saint Lucia – August 14, 2025 – A joint intelligence-led operation by the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force’s (RSLPF) Gangs, Narcotics and Firearms Unit and the Customs & Excise Department has intercepted over $51,000 worth of cannabis concealed in an inbound shipment at Port Castries.
According to police, on Friday, August 8, 2025, officers executed a targeted search at Shed 6 after receiving intelligence on a suspicious barrel shipment. The consignment was being cleared by Alston Singh, a Bonneterre native currently residing in Babonneau.
Upon inspection, five tins labelled as “dried fruit” were discovered. Due to recent seizures of controlled drugs hidden in similar packaging, a more detailed examination was conducted. One tin, opened in the presence of law enforcement, revealed 2.58 kilograms of compressed marijuana. Field testing confirmed the substance, which carries an estimated street value of EC$51,600.
Multiple Charges Filed
Singh has been charged with:
Importation of Controlled Drugs – Section 5, Drug (Prevention of Misuse) Act
Possession with Intent to Supply – Drug (Prevention of Misuse) Act
Fraudulent Evasion – Section 116(2)(b), Customs Act
Goods Improperly Imported – Section 32(1)(b)(d)(f), Customs Act
Court Appearance & Bail
Singh appeared before the First District Court on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, where he was granted bail of EC$30,000, cash or suitable surety, along with other court-imposed conditions.
Linked to Previous Drug Seizure
Police confirmed Singh was also implicated in a December 5, 2024 case involving the seizure of marijuana by-products and MDMA (Ecstasy) concealed in a courier facility shipment in Castries. That matter remains under review in connection with the present investigation.
The RSLPF has reaffirmed its commitment to disrupting the illegal drug trade, citing the bust as part of an ongoing crackdown on the importation of controlled substances into Saint Lucia.
