Must Read

Castries, Saint Lucia – A General Post Office employee has been arrested and formally charged in connection with the interception of a high-value shipment of cannabis resin worth an estimated EC$320,800.

Eldon Simon Renee faces multiple charges, including Importation of Controlled Drugs under the Drug (Prevention of Misuse) Act of Saint Lucia, Possession of Controlled Drugs with Intent to Supply, Fraudulent Evasion, and Illegally Imported Goods under the Customs Act.

The charges stem from a July 29, 2025 joint operation by the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force’s Gangs, Narcotics and Firearms Unit and the Customs and Excise Department. Authorities intercepted a suspicious package at the General Post Office in Castries, declared as food items but found to contain 80 rectangular bricks of suspected cannabis resin (hashish), each stamped “Made in California.” The drugs weighed 8.02 kilograms.

Renee was arrested on August 6, 2025, following which investigators executed a search warrant at a Millet residence on August 8, seizing electronics believed to be linked to the case.

On August 11, 2025, Renee appeared before the First District Court and was granted $40,000 bail, either in cash or with suitable surety. Bail conditions include surrendering all travel documents, a ban on leaving the state without court permission, and mandatory sign-ins at a designated police station.

The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force has confirmed that investigations are ongoing.
