Castries, Saint Lucia – July 11, 2025 — Former Minister for Communications and Works, Guy Joseph, has fired back at Senator Allison Jean following her announcement of legal action over statements he allegedly made linking her to corruption involving the Hewanorra International Airport (HIA) redevelopment project.
Joseph, speaking on a local media platform, expressed confusion and frustration over Jean’s legal claims, stating firmly: “Her name does not appear anywhere in the linguist report.” He further argued that Jean, during her tenure as Permanent Secretary (PS) in the Ministry of Communications and Works, was actively involved in the HIA project and served as Deputy Chair of the Saint Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority (SLASPA) — the very entity responsible for overseeing the multi-million-dollar venture.
“How could her name not feature?” Joseph asked rhetorically. “She was PS while I was Minister, and she was Deputy Chair of SLASPA when Asphalt and Mining was negotiating the airport contract.”
In a dramatic twist, Joseph also revealed that he had recently been served a legal notice by a police officer. “Yes, I received the letter, I read the letter, I took it to my lawyer, and everybody is confused by what it says. Honestly, I could write a better letter myself,” he said.
Joseph dismissed the allegations contained in the legal letter, stating that the reference to corruption was not directed at Jean personally. “The letter claims I made the statement in October 2024. But what I spoke about was the clearing of equipment belonging to Tony Leah. I clearly said that my PS was sent on leave, and someone was brought in from the Ministry of Finance — meaning Allison Jean was never implicated.”
The exchange between the two political figures has sparked public debate over transparency, accountability, and the politicization of legal threats. Senator Jean, who recently made her intention public to pursue legal recourse, has yet to respond to Joseph’s latest comments.
As this high-profile dispute continues to unfold, the nation watches closely, with many anticipating the legal and political ramifications that may follow.
