Foreign Doctor Charged for Practicing Medicine Without a License in Saint Lucia

CASTRIES, SAINT LUCIA — Authorities have confirmed the arrest and formal charge of a foreign national who was allegedly practicing medicine in Saint Lucia without a valid license.

On Saturday, May 31, 2025, the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force’s Major Crimes Unit (MCU) launched an investigation following a report from Chief Medical Officer Dr. Sharon Belmar-George, raising serious concerns about unauthorized medical practice on the island.

Just one day later, on Sunday, June 1, 2025, Dr. Subhashdas Sathiyadas was apprehended at George F.L. Charles Airport with the assistance of the Immigration Department while attempting to leave the country. His arrest marked a critical development in the ongoing crackdown on unlicensed medical operations.

Following thorough investigations, the MCU formally charged Dr. Sathiyadas on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, for Practicing Medicine Without a Valid License. He was brought before the First District Court for a bail hearing and was subsequently granted bail in the sum of EC$20,000, along with other court-imposed conditions.

The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force has reiterated its commitment to protecting public health and safety by ensuring that all individuals offering medical services are properly certified and legally registered to do so.
