Jazz en Vierge Expands Cultural Vision with Legacy Project and Community Showcase in Micoud

Must Read

Jazz en Vierge is set to return on April 26 with a broader cultural focus, as organisers introduce new elements aimed at deepening community engagement in Micoud. The annual event, staged along the cliffs of Pointe Vierge, is positioning itself as more than a music showcase—expanding into heritage, storytelling and local enterprise.

This year’s staging will feature its signature blend of reggae and jazz, alongside the launch of the “Experience Micoud” Legacy Project and a curated artisan space designed to highlight local talent and products.

Chair of the Jazz en Vierge Committee, Louise Frederick, said organisers are placing deliberate focus on showcasing community creativity through a “Made in Micoud” corner.

The space will feature locally produced jewellery, skincare items, home crafts and clothing, including pieces designed by a student of the Micoud Secondary School.

Frederick explained that the initiative is intended to shift how patrons experience the event, encouraging them to connect more meaningfully with the community. She noted that organisers want visitors to go beyond entertainment and support local vendors by “purchas[ing] a little piece of Micoud.”

A key addition this year is the Legacy Project, developed in collaboration with the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority’s Community Tourism Agency. The project introduces interpretive signage across Micoud, designed to highlight the history and cultural significance of various landmarks.

Chief Executive Officer Dahlia Guard described the initiative as an important step in strengthening community identity, noting that it empowers residents to tell their own stories while fostering pride in their surroundings.

Meanwhile, Parliamentary Representative for Micoud North, Jeremiah Norbert, pointed to the tangible economic impact of the event, emphasising that its benefits are felt directly within the community.

He highlighted that vendors, suppliers and service providers involved in the event are drawn from Micoud, creating opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship. He also underscored the level of community ownership behind the initiative, noting that the organising committee itself is made up entirely of residents.

Norbert further pointed to Pointe Vierge as a defining feature of the event, describing it as one of the most scenic venues on the island and a natural asset that continues to elevate the festival’s appeal.

As Jazz en Vierge evolves, its organisers appear intent on balancing entertainment with purpose—leveraging music as a gateway to cultural preservation, economic activity and community pride in Micoud.
