National Trust Condemns Monster Truck Stunt at Historic Powder Magazine

Must Read

The Saint Lucia National Trust (SLNT) has expressed shock and concern following the circulation of a video showing a monster truck being driven up the wall of the historic Powder Magazine at Morne Fortune.

In a statement, the Trust said it was “shocked by a video circulating on social media” involving an offroad monster truck known as Pinkie, associated with a Barbadian group called “Offroad Junkies 246.” The video reportedly shows the driver “endangering Saint Lucia’s oldest intact building by recklessly driving the vehicle up the wall of the building.”

The Powder Magazine, located at Morne Fortune, was constructed between 1763 and 1765 and is more than 260 years old. The Trust emphasized the national importance of the site, describing the action as “thoughtless and blatantly disrespectful,” adding that it “shows no regard for Saint Lucia’s unique built heritage.”

The SLNT is calling on authorities to take action. The organization urged officials “to intervene and apply the laws regarding endangering property and dangerous driving,” while also appealing to those responsible for similar activities “to immediately desist.”

Additionally, the Trust has asked members of the public to assist in safeguarding the island’s landmarks. It is requesting that any damaging activity at historic sites, monuments, or structures be reported promptly to the SLNT and local law enforcement.

“Saint Lucia’s past is the foundation of our future,” the Trust stated. “Let’s preserve our heritage together to ensure that our story never fades. Heritage belongs to all of us.”

The incident has sparked public concern, with heritage advocates reiterating the need for stronger protection and respect for Saint Lucia’s historic assets.
