A Grande Riviere resident is counting his blessings after narrowly escaping what could have been a deadly early-morning robbery in the Emerald Development area on Sunday.
The incident occurred around 6:00 a.m. when the man, who regularly goes for morning walks in the community, decided to take a different route through Emerald Development.
According to the victim, his quiet walk was suddenly interrupted when a white vehicle pulled up alongside him. Two young men exited the vehicle, and one of them brandished what appeared to be a firearm, immediately placing him in fear for his life.
The man reported that the assailants searched him and took his mobile phone. Moments later, one of the perpetrators allegedly told the other that the victim should be killed, heightening the already tense situation.
Fortunately, the attackers did not follow through with the threat. After a brief exchange between themselves, both men retreated, re-entered the vehicle and fled the area, leaving the shaken victim unharmed. The man later reported the matter to the police.
Residents of Grande Riviere have expressed growing concern over safety within the area, particularly in the early morning hours, and are urging increased patrols and vigilance to prevent further incidents.
Police investigations are ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the nearest police station.
