Police Welfare Association Seeks Clarification on Delay in Retroactive Allowances

Must Read

The Police Welfare Association (PWA) has issued a statement reaffirming its commitment to ensuring that police officers receive the retroactive allowances agreed upon with the Government of Saint Lucia.

In the release dated October 15, 2025, the Association acknowledged that several members had reached out for updates on the status of the negotiated allowances. The PWA confirmed that the allowances are to be paid retroactively, effective June 16, 2025, in keeping with the terms of the Collective Agreement signed on September 15, 2025.

That agreement, the Association noted, was signed in the presence of Prime Minister and Minister for Finance and National Security Hon. Philip J. Pierre, Minister for Labour Dr. Virginia Albert-Poyotte, Labour Commissioner Mr. Joseph Joseph, representatives of the Government Negotiating Team (GNT), and officials of the PWA.

According to the statement, subsequent checks by the PWA and its members revealed that the retroactive payments were not reflected in the October 2025 salaries of police officers. The Association therefore wrote to the Minister of Finance and National Security on October 14 requesting clarification on the matter.

The PWA stated that it remains confident that officers will receive the agreed adjustments, adding that it has fulfilled all its obligations under the Collective Agreement. It also emphasized that the Association will continue to engage in dialogue with the relevant authorities to ensure a timely resolution.

“The PWA remains steadfast in its commitment to advocate on behalf of its members and will continue to pursue resolution until this matter is rectified,” the statement concluded.
