Danny Butcher Unveils Vision for Vieux Fort South

Must Read

Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) candidate Danny Butcher has outlined a comprehensive plan to transform Vieux Fort South, emphasizing land ownership, infrastructure development, and job creation as his key priorities.

Speaking on Chill & Chat with Maundy Lewis, Butcher, who hails from humble beginnings, said he is committed to empowering residents and ensuring opportunities are accessible to all.

Addressing constituents, Butcher emphasized the importance of reclaiming lands previously tied up in the failed DSH project.

“We need to get back our lands. We need Vieux Fortions to own the lands on which they live so that we could really take off when it comes to economic development, when it comes to housing, building of factories, building of homes for our people, building of schools, building of healthcare facilities, and an administrative centre. Whatever you want to talk about, we need our land back. And I think it’s a crime towards the people of Vieux Fort that they lost acres of land, and one of the things I want to do in my first term is to give the people of Vieux Fort South back the lands which they lost,” he said.

Beyond land reclamation, Butcher highlighted the need to diversify employment opportunities. “We need to create diversity in employment whether it be manual labor, clerical, or an improvement in technological employment which is where the world is going right now,” he added, underscoring his commitment to aligning local development with global trends.

Butcher also addressed concerns around safety and governance, taking aim at political tactics that exploit tragedy.

“This is a government that really empathizes with persons who have lost lives. This is not a government that rejoices when a person loses life. It always unnerves me when someone loses a life, and we try to score cheap political points with it. It’s something, it’s a practice that should not happen,” he stressed.

Positioning himself as a candidate of both change and continuity, Butcher vowed to deliver long-awaited projects and restore confidence in political leadership in the constituency.
