Major Firearms Interdiction Leads to 48 Charges, One of Saint Lucia’s Largest Seizures of Military-Style Weapons

In one of the most significant blows to gun trafficking in Saint Lucia’s history, the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force has intercepted a deadly arsenal of military-grade weapons, leading to 48 serious firearms charges and exposing the deep reach of transnational criminal networks. 

The seizure included prohibited military-style weapons, handguns, and over three thousand rounds of ammunition, highlighting the grave threat such weapons pose to national security and public safety.

Twenty four year old Malik Francis Phillip, of Conway/Barnard Hill, Castries was arrested and charged as follows:

Five counts, Importation of Prohibited Weapons (AR-15 rifles)

Twelve counts – Importation of Firearms (pistols)

Seven counts – Importation of Ammunition (7 calibres, over 3,000 rounds)

Five counts – Possession of Prohibited Weapons (AR-15 rifles)

Twelve counts – Possession of Firearms (pistols)

Seven counts – Possession of Ammunition

In addition, forty-eight Customs-related charges are pending, to be laid during indictment. These will cover breaches of importation laws, declaration violations, and the use of false documentation.

On Monday, May 27, 2025, at approximately 11:00 a.m., officers from the Gangs, Narcotics and Firearms Unit (GNFU), Special Operations Team, and Canine (K9) Unit, conducted a joint patrol in Castries.

During the operation, the team proceeded to Shed 7, Port Castries, where a K9 sweep was conducted on several barrels with the assistance of a Customs Officer. The canine gave a positive indication on one barrel, consigned to Malik Francis Phillip.

Following weeks of intelligence gathering, forensic processing, and inter-agency coordination, a joint police operation on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, led to the apprehension of Malik Francis Phillip. He was taken into custody without incident and, after consultation with the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), was formally charged later that day.

Phillip is expected to be brought before the court on Wednesday, September 24, 2025. Due to the nature of the offences, the case falls outside the jurisdiction of the Magistrates’ Court and will be committed to the High Court for trial. He will be remanded into custody pending the progression of the case.

This operation highlights the transnational nature of organized crime, revealing clear links between local criminal networks and international arms suppliers. The recovery of AR-15 rifles, multiple handguns, and a significant quantity of ammunition emphasizes the critical
