A Conway resident is facing 96 criminal charges as the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) ramps up efforts to send a strong message in its fight against illegal firearms and organized crime.
In the early hours of Tuesday, September 23, 2025, the RSLPF launched coordinated operations across Castries, targeting the communities of Conway, Barnard Hill, and Marchand. Beginning around 4:00 a.m., officers executed six warrants, two in Marchand and four in Conway/Barnard Hill and conducted vehicular checkpoints that resulted in the impounding of four vehicles.
As part of the operation, police arrested Malik Philip of Conway, who is expected to face charges including:
24 counts of possession of firearm ammunition
24 counts of importation of firearms into Saint Lucia
24 customs-related offences for illegally imported goods
24 counts of fraudulent evasion under the Customs Act
The charges stem from a barrel intercepted at Port Castries containing firearms, seized in a joint operation between the Customs and Excise Department and the Guns, Narcotics and Firearms Unit.
The operation involved the Special Operations Team, the Guns, Narcotics and Firearms Unit, the Marchand Police Station, the Northern Tactical Team, and the Special Services Unit.
The RSLPF has pledged to maintain pressure on criminal networks, emphasizing its commitment to reducing the flow of illegal firearms and safeguarding citizens.
