The Monchy–Corinth road expansion project, launched on August 20th, is rapidly transforming the northern transportation corridor, with major improvements already easing traffic flow for commuters.
Project Manager Savvy Gajadhar confirmed that the works are approximately 15% complete, noting that while visible progress has been made, significant tasks remain ahead. “Although it seems like a lot of work has been done, we still have a long way to go,” Gajadhar said, highlighting that the project involves extensive road widening, demolition of outdated drains, and re-profiling to deliver a safer and smoother driving experience.
Already, motorists are experiencing relief as several notorious bottleneck areas have been cleared. Retaining walls have been constructed, edges cleaned up, and sections of the road widened using existing reserves. “As you can see if you drive, a lot of the areas that previously caused bottlenecks are now open, and traffic is flowing much more freely,” Gajadhar added.
Scheduled for completion within a 16-month timeframe, the project team is working seven days a week to expedite the upgrades. While temporary delays are expected during construction, officials assure the public that the short-term inconvenience will be outweighed by long-term benefits.
Once completed, the Monchy–Corinth road will provide a modern, high-capacity route designed to reduce congestion, enhance road safety, and support the growing transportation demands of northern Saint Lucia.
