CSA Mourns Victims of Gun Violence, Calls for United Action to Reclaim Safer Communities

The Saint Lucia Civil Service Association (CSA) has expressed deep sorrow following the fatal shootings of two individuals on Saturday, August 16, 2025, that also left several others injured.

In a statement issued Monday, CSA President Thecla Goodman described the violent acts as a tragedy that has shaken communities during a time meant for connection and commerce. She extended condolences to the bereaved families and to all who have lost loved ones to violence in recent years.

“No words can ease the pain of such loss, but we stand with you in solidarity and sorrow,” Goodman said. “As a union, our mission is to protect and uplift the lives of workers—but our commitment goes beyond the workplace. We are part of the communities we serve, and when those communities suffer, we must respond with compassion and resolve.”

The CSA strongly condemned the surge in gun violence, noting that the issue extends beyond law enforcement. According to Goodman, crime reflects deeper social challenges that require “a united, holistic response.”

She urged government agencies, civil society, religious leaders, educators, youth advocates, and unions to collaborate on addressing the root causes of crime while strengthening community support systems.

The union’s statement also called on the public to take an active role in reclaiming communities.

“Let us not be passive witnesses to violence and despair. Speak up. Get involved. Support community initiatives. Mentor a young person. Attend local forums. Share your ideas. Hold leaders accountable,” the CSA declared. “Every action, no matter how small, contributes to the healing and rebuilding of our society.”

The CSA concluded with a message of vigilance and unity, encouraging citizens to resist fear and division in the face of escalating violence.

“Let us rise together—with courage and compassion—to reclaim our communities and build a Saint Lucia where everyone feels safe, valued, and empowered,” Goodman affirmed.
