Castries, Saint Lucia – The St. Lucia Boxing Association has announced a major breakthrough for local boxing, with two St. Lucian boxers set to receive scholarships to train in the French Overseas Territories. The development follows the successful hosting of the OECS Invitational Boxing Championships and a high-level meeting with His Excellency Domenico Ditaranto, Deputy Head of Mission at the French Republic to the OECS, along with senior officials from the Embassy of France.
The luncheon meeting, held in a spirit of camaraderie, went beyond discussions on boxing to explore wider areas of mutual interest between Saint Lucia and France. According to the Association, the French delegation expressed their delight at the recent tournament’s success and signaled a strong desire to deepen sporting cooperation.
“This is only the start,” the St. Lucia Boxing Association stated, noting that the scholarships represent the beginning of a new chapter in the relationship between Saint Lucia and the French Overseas Territories. The exchange will provide local athletes with access to advanced training facilities, coaching expertise, and an opportunity to raise the standard of boxing in the region.
In addition to the scholarships, the Association will support the Embassy of France in hosting a National Sports Festival to mark the inaugural French National Day of Sports. This initiative, launched by President Emmanuel Macron after the Paris Olympics, aims to promote sporting excellence and cultural exchange.
The St. Lucia Boxing Association reaffirmed its commitment to working with its French counterparts, declaring: “Long live the Government and People of France and the French Overseas Territories.”
