Jeremiah Norbert Hails Aquaponics Facility as Milestone for Inclusion and Economic Empowerment

Standing alongside Prime Minister Hon. Philip J. Pierre at the official launch of the Aquaponics Facility at the NSDC in Vieux Fort, Minister for Persons with Disabilities, Hon. Jeremiah Norbert, called the moment a proud milestone in the country’s journey toward inclusion and economic justice.

The facility, spearheaded by the National Council of and for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD) under the leadership of Mr. Merphilius James, is more than just a sustainable agriculture project, it is a bold statement on the power of innovation to uplift marginalized communities.

“This facility is far more than a structure,” Norbert declared. “It is a symbol of innovation, inclusion, and economic empowerment. Through aquaponics training, persons with disabilities are being equipped with the skills to grow food, earn a livelihood, and participate fully in the economy.”

Norbert emphasized that true inclusion goes beyond policy, it requires intentional investment in people’s potential. He reaffirmed his ministry’s commitment to creating a society where persons with disabilities are seen as equal citizens, not afterthoughts.

“We are currently developing a comprehensive National Disability Policy,” he revealed. “This will soon be followed by transformative legislation aimed at breaking down systemic barriers in education, employment, healthcare, infrastructure, and civic participation.”

He made it clear that this movement is not about charity, but about justice and equality. “Every Saint Lucian has something valuable to contribute,” Norbert said. “Our society is only whole when everyone is given a fair chance to thrive.”

He thanked the NCPD for leading by example and praised the Prime Minister’s steadfast commitment to leaving no one behind.

“With projects like this, we are proving that inclusion in Saint Lucia is no longer just a promise, it’s becoming a reality.”
