National Footballer Sherman Augustin Fatally Stabbed on Carnival Monday

Must Read

VIGIE, Saint Lucia — The vibrant celebrations of Carnival Monday were shattered by tragedy as 22-year-old national footballer Sherman Augustin became the victim of a fatal stabbing. The incident has sent shockwaves throughout the nation and plunged the sporting fraternity into mourning.

Augustin, a midfielder for Gros Islet in the Saint Lucia Semi Professional Football League and a former player with Grenades FC in Antigua, was reportedly enjoying the Carnival festivities shortly before his demise.

The loss of the young athlete has sparked an outpouring of grief from both local and regional football communities. President of the Saint Lucia Football Association Inc. (SLFA), Lyndon Cooper, expressed profound sorrow when speaking to Saint Lucia Daily Post.

“Sherman was a promising young midfielder who was in the mix of the Saint Lucia National team, having played as recently as last year. It saddens me to hear of his untimely demise in such tragic circumstances. On behalf of the SLFA and by extension the entire footballing fraternity, we extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends,” Cooper stated.

“We at the SLFA have always seen football as a means of embracing and including marginalized and at-risk youth, and it pains us to see one of our very own struck down by violence. We denounce this behaviour and we make a strong appeal to young people, imploring them to seek alternative solutions when dealing with conflict.”

Augustin was no stranger to regional football, having played professionally in Antigua and while at school in Jamaica. He represented Saint Lucia in international competition as recently as October 14, 2024, when he came on in the 65th minute against Saint Martin in a CONCACAF Nations League match.

His former club, Grenades FC, also paid tribute on social media:

“We have just learnt of the tragic death of our former player Sherman Augustin in St. Lucia. On behalf of Grenades FC, we extend condolences to his family. Sleep well Sherman.”

Augustin, who would have celebrated his 23rd birthday on October 20, 2025, was widely regarded as one of the island’s most promising young talents.

Police investigations into the fatal stabbing are ongoing. The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force has not yet issued an official statement on the incident.

Saint Lucia Daily Post will continue to follow this developing story and provide updates as more information becomes available.
