Two More Killed in Ongoing Gun Violence; Five Homicides in Less Than One Week

Two men were shot and killed in separate incidents on Monday night, bringing the total number of homicides in Saint Lucia to thirty-three.

At around 11:00 p.m., gunfire was heard in New Village, Castries.

Eighteen-year-old Jhanick Jn Phillip was shot multiple times by multiple gunmen, according to residents. He was transported to hospital by emergency personnel at about 11:22 p.m. but was later pronounced dead.

About 3am Tuesday, a 21-year-old man was fatally shot in Dennery. Two other people were also injured during the incident. Their conditions are currently unknown.

The two killings follow three others over the weekend. On Friday, June 27, 36-year-old Jimmy Charles of Richfond, Dennery, was shot and killed at around 9:27 p.m. A short time later, 27-year-old Darnel Charles of Monchy, Gros Islet, was also killed in a separate shooting.

On Sunday, June 29, 18-year-old Anthony Cox of Soufrière was shot in Plamiste, Soufriere. He sustained serious injuries and later died at hospital.

Police have not yet released further information on the incidents or confirmed any arrests. Investigations are ongoing.
