St. Lucia Employers’ Federation Expands to the South, Tackles Minimum Wage Impact

Must Read

The St. Lucia Employers’ Federation (SLEF) is breaking new ground in 2025 by extending its reach to the Southern business community, ensuring greater accessibility and engagement for employers beyond the North. This initiative aims to bring direct support and dialogue to businesses in the region, eliminating the need for long commutes to Castries.

The inaugural Southern business forum will be held on January 28, 2025, at the National Skills Development Centre in Vieux Fort, with Executive Director Cornelia Jn. Baptiste chairing the session. The event will focus on “The Impact of Minimum Wage Implementation,” a topic of major concern since the October 1, 2024, introduction of a national minimum wage.

Employers attending the session will have the opportunity to gain insights into the implications of the new wage policy, discuss their challenges and experiences, and provide direct feedback to the Minister for Labour. SLEF remains dedicated to ensuring that employer voices are heard in shaping policy that fosters business growth and economic stability.

Recognizing the unique concerns of Southern businesses, the Federation is committed to supporting all members across the island. A follow-up meeting in Castries is scheduled to continue discussions and explore practical solutions for businesses adapting to the new wage structure.

“We recognize the need to meet our members where they are,” said Cornelia Jn. Baptiste, emphasizing that expanding to the South reflects SLEF’s dedication to inclusivity and employer support. Business owners in the region are urged to take advantage of this opportunity to engage in critical discussions, connect with industry peers, and strategize for a sustainable economic future.

With limited seating available, early registration is encouraged. Employers can secure their spot by contacting the St. Lucia Employers’ Federation at 1 (758) 452-2190.

The St. Lucia Employers’ Federation continues to be a leading advocate for workplace policies, ensuring businesses across the island have the resources and representation needed to thrive. Join the conversation on January 28, 2025, and be part of shaping the future of business in St. Lucia.
