Saint Lucian entrepreneur and digital innovator Yannick Theodore has been awarded an honorary Doctor of Philosophy by International American University, in recognition of his transformative work in digital education, youth empowerment and community development.

The prestigious honour was conferred during a formal ceremony held at the Crown Plaza in San Francisco, where business leaders, media representatives and fellow honourees gathered to celebrate individuals making significant global impact.

Dr. Theodore, who now carries the title Ph.D (Hon.), has built a 16-year career spanning entrepreneurship, leadership, ambassadorships, content creation and charitable work. His recognition highlights what university officials describe as a growing shift in higher education — one that acknowledges non-traditional leaders and digital innovators who are shaping public discourse and expanding access to knowledge.

President of IAU, Dr. Ryan Doan, praised Theodore’s influence and commitment to social good.

“Dr. Yannick Theodore has used his platform to educate, inspire and mentor young people. This honorary doctorate acknowledges not only his entrepreneurial success but his commitment to meaningful community development,” Doan stated. “He is a perfect example of how entrepreneurial and digital influence can be harnessed for education and social good.”

Theodore’s most recent venture — an AI-powered online learning platform for children, has already reached tens of thousands of young participants across the Caribbean. The platform provides free access to AI-assisted education tools and etiquette development programmes, helping bridge digital gaps and prepare youth for the modern economy.

Beyond technology, Theodore has authored books and articles offering mentorship and career guidance to both young and mature audiences. His initiatives have created opportunities, encouraged innovation and contributed to economic growth and job creation.

Speaking after receiving the award, Theodore described the moment as deeply personal. “Education changed my life, and my goal has always been to open doors for others through knowledge and opportunity,” he said. “This doctorate underscores the power of community and the responsibility entrepreneurs and creators have to use their influence for the greater good.”

Honorary doctorates represent the highest distinction a university can bestow. Recipients are permitted to use the title “Dr.” before their name, symbolising institutional admiration and respect.

Founded in Los Angeles, the International American University is a private, for-profit institution offering programmes in business, IT and health sciences, with a global footprint and hybrid learning model. Its College of Medicine operates in Saint Lucia, providing a pathway to medical degrees for students across the region.

The university’s decision to honour Theodore reflects a broader global trend of academic institutions embracing digital culture, entrepreneurship and industry leadership as essential components of modern education.

For Saint Lucia, the accolade stands as a moment of pride, highlighting the growing influence of local entrepreneurs on the international stage and reinforcing the island’s emerging role in innovation and digital transformation.
