A middle-aged man is fighting for his life at the Owen King EU Hospital after reportedly being bitten by a fer-de-lance, one of the Caribbean’s most venomous snakes.
The man, identified as Valence Alfred, was rushed to hospital on Tuesday and is currently being treated in the Intensive Care Unit. Medical sources indicate that Alfred sustained bites to his face and hands and remains in critical condition.
He is reportedly receiving a cocktail of antivenom as doctors work to counter the effects of the powerful venom and stabilise his condition.
Details surrounding the circumstances of the snake attack remain unclear at this time. It is not known where the incident occurred or how Alfred came into contact with the reptile.
The fer-de-lance is considered extremely dangerous due to the potency of its venom, which can cause severe tissue damage and life-threatening complications if not treated promptly.
This is a developing story. Saint Lucia Daily Post will provide updates as more information becomes available.
