A 25-year-old Saint Lucian national has been extradited to Martinique to face a series of serious criminal charges, marking another major step in the ongoing collaboration between law enforcement authorities in Saint Lucia and the French territory.
On Thursday, November 6, 2025, Deshawn Rene of Barre Denis, Castries, was formally handed over to a French escort team for transfer to Martinique. The extradition was conducted through a joint operation involving the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) and the Bordelais Correctional Facility.
Rene faces nine charges, including fraud, armed robbery, and murder, according to police reports. His extradition follows months of coordination between judicial and security officials from both jurisdictions.
Authorities have confirmed that this is the fifth extradition to Martinique from Saint Lucia in 2025, as part of intensified efforts to combat transnational crime across the Eastern Caribbean.
A senior police official, speaking on the growing cooperation between the two countries, said the partnership demonstrates “a shared commitment to ensuring that borders are not barriers to justice.”
Law enforcement agencies in Saint Lucia and Martinique have been working closely on cases involving cross-border criminal activity, including smuggling, fraud, and violent crime, as both islands move to strengthen regional security frameworks.
The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to regional collaboration, noting that such cooperation is essential in addressing the evolving nature of criminal networks operating within the Caribbean.
