PUBLIC ALERT: Surge in Scam Messages and Calls Targeting Bank Customers in Saint Lucia

Must Read

The Bankers Association of Saint Lucia (BASL) is urgently warning members of the public to remain vigilant in the face of a troubling spike in scam text messages and fraudulent phone calls targeting customers of local financial institutions.

In an official media release, BASL revealed that scammers are impersonating banks and tricking unsuspecting individuals into disclosing sensitive personal and banking information. These deceptive messages often claim there has been a suspicious transaction or request users to “verify” their identity—only to lead victims to share critical data like account numbers, online banking credentials, or one-time verification codes.

Protect Yourself: What You Need to Know BASL strongly reminds the public:

Legitimate banks in Saint Lucia will never request personal banking information via text, call, email, or social media.

Do not click on suspicious links or respond to unexpected bank messages.

If you receive a questionable call, hang up immediately and contact your bank directly using numbers listed on its official website or documents.

The Association is working hand in hand with local authorities, mobile service providers, and its member banks to investigate these cases and prevent further incidents. Still, they emphasize that public awareness is the strongest defense.

Recommended Actions for All Customers:

Report suspicious calls or texts to your bank without delay.

Never share your private financial information unless you are certain of the source.

Educate elderly or tech-inexperienced relatives who may be more vulnerable to such scams.

BASL assures the public of its full commitment to preserving the integrity of Saint Lucia’s financial sector. “Your vigilance and cooperation are essential in preventing financial fraud,” the Association stated.

The banking institutions under BASL’s umbrella include 1st National Bank St. Lucia, Bank of Saint Lucia, Republic Bank EC, CIBC Caribbean, and several others.
