Castries, Saint Lucia – May 28, 2025 — Law enforcement officials in Saint Lucia have made a significant breakthrough in the fight against illegal firearms, recovering 17 guns and over 3,000 rounds of ammunition in a major operation at Wharf, Castries.
The announcement was made Tuesday by Deputy Commissioner of Police Ronald Philip, who confirmed that the raid was carried out by officers from the Gang, Narcotics and Firearms Unit, working alongside the Special Operations Team of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force.
“I want to first of all commend the officers…for their continued efforts at assisting in minimizing criminal activity in Saint Lucia,” Philip said. “These successful police operations occurred while the officers were on routine patrol. The connected operations at Wharf resulted in the recovery of a significant quantity of illegal firearms and ammunition.”
The Deputy Commissioner credited the canine unit for its key role in the detection of the hidden cache. “I want to say that the detection was assisted through the use of our canine unit. In recent times, we have taken steps to improve our canine unit to assist us in the detection of drugs and firearms.”
The operation is one of the largest gun seizures in Saint Lucia this year and marks a decisive step by local authorities in cracking down on gun violence and the illegal weapons trade.
Ongoing investigations aim to uncover the source and intended recipients of the firearms. Law enforcement has pledged to continue targeting illegal gun networks and drug trafficking rings operating across the island.
