The Discover Dominica Authority, the agency responsible for marketing Dominica’s tourism products, had its media launch for the Dominica Carnival 2025 in Saint Lucia on Wednesday. Called Mas Domnik, the celebration is a highlight of Dominica’s culture and festive spirit.
Saint Lucia’s very own, Shemmy J, will be performing at Dominica’s premier event – Sunrise – on February 28th. He expressed his gratitude to not only perform in Dominica but represent Saint Lucia well. “I’m honoured to be here as we announce Sunrise, an incredible event.
I’ll be proudly representing St. Lucia on stage in Dominica. It’s a celebration of Caribbean culture and I’m happy to be part of it. Thank you to the organizers for this amazing opportunity and to my supporters for always inspiring me. I can’t wait to bring the energy of St. Lucia to Sunrise,” said the soca artiste on Wednesday.
The festivities culminate on 3 and 4 March with the Mas Domnik Street Parade, a spectacular two-day extravaganza. The streets of Dominica will burst into life with dazzling costumes, vibrant bands, and a sea of colours as revellers line the parade routes in a celebration of creativity and community.
Communications Specialist for the Discover Dominica Authority, Monelle Alexis, says Dominica’s carnival is unlike any other. The Dominica tourism official touted the island’s cultural richness and relative safety as reasons why Saint Lucians, and others, should travel to participate in the festivities. “From 6 to 10 p.m. on Carnival Monday and Tuesday, everyone is welcome to join any band and share in the joy. So, why choose Mas Domnik? Dominica is recognized as one of the safest destinations in the Caribbean, ranking 38th globally for safety and security. Your peace of mind is our priority, allowing you to fully embrace every moment,” Alexis said, marketing the nature isle
Dominica’s Carnival is known as the ‘Real Mas’ because it holds true to Carnival traditions of the past.
Held at the traditional pre-Lenten time, is a feast of calypso music, Carnival competitions and activities all leading up to two exciting days of street jump-up.
