The Department of Road Safety, in partnership with the Special Services Unit, conducted a series of traffic enforcement operations over the weekend, leading to multiple arrests, vehicle impoundments, and ticket issuances. From Friday, January 24, 2025, to Sunday, January 26, 2025, authorities focused on the Central and Northern Policing Divisions to enhance road safety and maintain public order. Officers stopped 175 vehicles, searched eight, and impounded six for various infractions. Fourteen individuals were cautioned, while another 14 were searched during the operation. Law enforcement officials issued 58 tickets and removed eight full-front windscreen tints that obstructed drivers’ visibility. Additionally, authorities seized eight pairs of scissors and arrested three individuals, including two for theft and one for possession of a fraudulent driving license.
Motorists are being reminded that affixing writings to their front or rear windscreens poses a safety hazard by limiting visibility, increasing the risk of road accidents. The Department of Road Safety continues to stress the importance of compliance with traffic regulations, reinforcing that driving is a privilege requiring responsibility. While the primary role of road safety officers is to enforce traffic laws, their duty extends to preserving life and protecting property.
On Sunday, January 26, officers from the operation responded to a theft report at Vigie Beach involving a foreign national whose mobile phone was stolen. A rapid response led to the identification and apprehension of the two suspects, and the stolen device was successfully recovered. The case was transferred to the Criminal Investigations Department for further legal action. A similar incident occurred on Tuesday, January 28, when officers conducting routine road safety checks on Brazil Street, Castries, intervened in another theft involving a visitor. Their swift response resulted in the arrest of a suspect and the recovery of the stolen item, reinforcing the police force’s commitment to ensuring public safety.
