Speaking to Saint Lucia Daily Post on Monday morning, community members voiced their distress, expressing concerns for their safety and that of their loved ones. One business owner, speaking on condition of anonymity, described the situation as heartbreaking. Another resident admitted to feeling hurt, ashamed, and afraid, as the rising violence continues to disrupt their sense of security.
On Saturday evening, the community was shaken by gunfire that claimed the life of 23-year-old Eman Emmanuel, a resident of Marc. His girlfriend of two years, who was with him at the time, was also shot and remains in critical condition at the hospital. According to relatives, the couple was ambushed while walking home from a nearby bar. The motive behind the attack remains unknown, with family members insisting they were unaware of any disputes or criminal involvement. A relative reflected on the uncertainty, noting that behavior at home often differs from what happens outside.
In the wake of Saturday’s tragedy, the sound of more gunfire echoed through the community, further intensifying fears among residents. One individual called for an end to the violence, while another described the worsening situation, highlighting that shootings have become a frequent and terrifying reality. A former police officer shared deep concerns, admitting to being afraid to walk in certain areas due to the constant gunfire.

Community members are now calling for increased police presence, security cameras, better street lighting, and bush clearing to improve safety. A local businessman stressed the urgency of these measures, emphasizing that criminals are using overgrown bushes and darkened areas to hide and plan their attacks. Police have since urged anyone with information regarding the Marc homicide to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation.
With three homicides confirmed in Saint Lucia this year, the urgency for solutions to curb rising violence has never been greater. Stay connected with Saint Lucia Daily Post for the latest developments.
