The alarming frequency of motor vehicle crashes in Saint Lucia has once again been highlighted following a fatal collision over the weekend. The Saint Lucia Fire Service (SLFS) has confirmed that on Saturday, January 4, 2025, emergency personnel responded to a serious motor vehicular collision at Rodney Bay involving two vehicles.
Upon arrival, SLFS personnel found five individuals in need of emergency medical assistance. One of the victims, who had to be extricated from the wreckage, was assessed and found without vital signs, marking the first recorded road fatality for 2025. The remaining four individuals sustained various injuries and were promptly assessed, treated, and transported to a medical facility for advanced medical care. The scene was subsequently handed over to officers attached to the Gros-Islet Police Station for further investigation.
This tragic incident underscores growing concerns over road safety in Saint Lucia, as collisions continue to result in severe injuries and fatalities. Authorities continue to urge motorists to exercise caution on the roads to prevent further loss of life.
In a separate incident, on Thursday, January 2, 2025, the Saint Lucia Fire Service responded to a structural fire at Barre St. Joseph. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a wooden structure completely destroyed by fire. Fortunately, there were no occupants inside the building at the time of the incident, and firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze.
While the cause of the fire remains under investigation, the SLFS continues to remind the public of the importance of fire safety measures, particularly in residential areas, to prevent loss of life and property damage.
