The Saint Lucia Social Development Fund (SSDF) has taken a significant step toward strengthening employment pathways with the signing of a new memorandum of understanding with Real Foods Inc., a move expected to expand job placement opportunities for individuals enrolled in its empowerment programmes.

The agreement positions the private sector as a key partner in tackling unemployment, while creating a more structured pathway from training to meaningful employment for programme participants.

Executive Director John Victorin described the initiative as a landmark development for the Fund, noting that job placement remains central to its empowerment strategy. He explained that the programme is designed not only to equip individuals with skills, but to ensure those skills translate into sustainable income opportunities.

Victorin emphasized that the collaboration with Real Foods will directly support participants seeking to enter the workforce, marking what he described as the SSDF’s first formal job placement partnership of its kind. He added that the Fund is actively seeking to deepen private sector engagement, inviting more businesses to collaborate in creating opportunities for programme participants.

The SSDF, he noted, continues to invest heavily in preparing individuals for employment through life skills training, career guidance, and workplace readiness initiatives, ensuring that participants are equipped to transition successfully into professional environments.

On the private sector side, Human Resource Manager Sophia Jardine-Frederick welcomed the partnership, underscoring its alignment with Real Foods Inc.’s longstanding commitment to community development.

She explained that the collaboration strengthens the company’s corporate social responsibility efforts, particularly in the area of job placement, while complementing its ongoing outreach initiatives.

Jardine-Frederick highlighted the synergy between both organisations, pointing to the SSDF’s focus on training and development, alongside Real Foods’ role in providing tangible employment opportunities. She noted that the initiative will allow participants to gain hands-on experience, earn an income, and contribute meaningfully to society.

Expressing confidence in the partnership’s long-term impact, she said the company is optimistic about the outcomes and looks forward to expanding its collaboration with the Fund.

The agreement is expected to play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between training and employment in Saint Lucia, while strengthening ties between public institutions and private sector entities in addressing workforce development and economic empowerment.
